Young Maker Club (YMC) is a STEM (science, technology, engineering & mathematics) class designed to give students a hands-on learning experience that develop student interest, knowledge and skills in:
Class Delivery Method
YMC students will meet weekly on Sunday 10am to 11.30am at Arus Academy to learn coding and project making.
In addition to STEM knowledge and project making skills, YMC places a high emphasis on the character development of secondary school students to be bold and equally confident in the STEM fields. YMC students will learn coding and project making in a safe and conducive environment that allows their voices to be heard. Besides the weekly class, students can also reach out to teachers through WhatsApp group for additional advice and technical assistance.
All these learning experiences enable students to take ownership of their learning and prepare to take on any form of higher learning in the future.
Snapshots of students learning journey
After 3 months of intensive learning, YMC students are challenged to put together their Arduino programming knowledge and project making skills to design project prototypes that help to solve real world problems. In doing so,
YMC students may even need to go to the ground for interviewing real users to create their user-centric project prototypes. At the end of the programme, students will need to pitch for their inventions and many of them will go beyond that to enrol in various external STEM & robotics competitions.
