Junior Maker Club (JMC)
A physical class learning STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) & robotic class designed for students from 10-14 years old using micro:bit and Makecode programming
March – September 2022

Introduction
Junior Maker Club (JMC) is a modified version of Young Maker Club (YMC) to cater for younger students. Similar to YMC, JMC is a STEM (science, technology, engineering & mathematics) class designed to give students a hands-on learning experience that develop student interest, knowledge and skills in:
- Computational & Design Thinking
- Problem Solving
- Coding
- Project Management
- Project Presentation
Class Delivery Method
JMC students will meet weekly on Saturday from 10am to 11.30am in Arus Academy to learn coding and project making.
In addition to STEM knowledge and project making skills, JMC places a high emphasis on the character development of primary and secondary school students to be bold and equally confident in the STEM fields. JMC students will learn coding and project making in a safe and conducive environment that allows their voices to be heard. Besides the weekly meeting with teachers, students can also reach out to teachers through WhatsApp group for additional advice and technical assistance.
All these novel learning experiences enable students to take ownership of their learning and prepare to take on any form of higher learning in the future.
Snapshots of students learning journey
After 3-months of intensive learning, JMC students will need to apply the coding knowledge and project making skills to build physical project prototypes that help to solve real world problems. This allows students to see the relevance of their learning and take a step further to deepen their knowledge in the STEM fields. At the end of the programme, students will be trained to present their project inventions in English and encouraged to participate in many other external STEM & robotics competitions.
