Our Approach

How we teach — and why it works

Our learning model was developed in-house with 10 years of experience innovating what learning could look like. It takes the best from various learning models and theories, with tried and tested methods, to develop well-rounded students.

Desired Student Outcomes

What we develop in every student

🚀 Fast Learners

Able to learn anything fast.

💪 Resilience

Resilient and adaptive to changes.

🌈 Wide Interests

Have wide-ranging interests.

⚡ Problem-Excited

Get excited when they see problems.

🧠 First Principles

Think in first principles.

🗣️ Communicators

Convey what they think and understand what others say.

🛠️ Creators

Able to create something out of nothing — or out of something else.

❤️ Love Learning

Develop a genuine love for learning, and skill in learning how to learn.

Our Curriculum

A multi-disciplinary curriculum

The Maker Academy curriculum covers a wide range of topics designed to move students from passive learners to active makers and problem-solvers.

🌏 Global Citizenship

💰 Financial Literacy

📰 Media Literacy

🤖 Digital Citizenship & AI

⚙️ Technology & Engineering

Core curriculum pillars

Digital Literacy & Coding

Students learn programming through tools like Scratch, Arduino, micro:bit and Raspberry Pi — lessons designed to build computational thinking skills.

Design Thinking

A central part of the curriculum that teaches students how to empathise with users, define problems, and prototype solutions.

Maker Skills

Hands-on instruction in 3D modelling, robotics and physical computing to build tangible prototypes.

Financial & Global Literacy

Beyond tech, the curriculum includes financial simulations and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) projects.

Communication

Includes TED-Ed Club modules where students learn to articulate their ideas and present their projects effectively.

Learning Structure

A progression model, not a one-size class

Arus classifies students into a progression model so each student gets the personalised guidance they need.

StageDescriptionType of Learning
Explorers Early stage focusing on fundamental learning habits, with introductory topics across our core curriculum. Direct & explicit
Settlers Early stage where students begin to make their own learning choices with teacher suggestions. Suggested & choice-making
Heroes Intermediate stage where students apply skills to solve more complex, guided challenges. Enabling & controlled
Superheroes Independent learners who identify real-world problems and design their own original solutions and prototypes. Coached & thought-partnering
Inside Our Classrooms

Learning how to learn is taught deliberately

"Learning how to learn" isn't a slogan here — it's a set of named habits, trained explicitly in every lesson and assessed in our rubrics:

  • Diverge before you converge — generate every idea first, then select with explicit criteria.
  • Ask "why" until it's uncomfortable — chase root causes, not surface answers.
  • Read your work like a stranger — see what it actually says, not what you meant.
  • Change one thing at a time — the core discipline of debugging anything.
  • Listen harder than you speak — wait for full answers; pauses are data.
  • Explain it, or it doesn't exist — every project must survive being presented to a real audience.

Teachers don't lecture. They check understanding before every step forward, and circulate with questions rather than answers — because a child who was told the answer learned less than a child who was asked the right question.

Behind the Scenes

A curriculum built like a professional product

What parents don't usually see is the engineering underneath. Ours is worth showing:

Standards

Internationally benchmarked

Topics are aligned to CSTA K-12 Computer Science and ISTE student standards — the same frameworks used by leading school systems.

Structure

Every topic, one rigorous template

Objectives, prerequisites, hook, guided content, practice and a four-tier mastery check — consistent across every field we teach.

Audits

Reviewed like a publisher would

The curriculum is formally checked for gaps, circular dependencies and difficulty jumps — then restructured when it falls short.

Evidence

Mastery you can see

Students produce artefacts at every stage — recorded explanations, design documents, working builds — so progress is visible, not vague.

Our Role in Education

Where we sit in the education landscape

Every tier of education has its place and purpose. We believe we deliver at the top tier with our self-directed learning methodology.

Type of LearningExamples
Self-directed learning 🏔️ (the apex — where we operate) World-class education programmes (IB, un-schooling, Arus Academy)
Creative and innovation training Design Thinking studios, innovation hubs, inquiry-based programmes
Creative arts and expression Music programmes, acting studios
Skills development training Robotics and STEM classes with complete guided modules to follow
Rote learning and memorisation Tuition, maths & language centres for basic academic support
Core Features

An education-first programme

Technology

Tools that personalise learning

  • Digital learning portal
  • AI-powered student management system
  • Personalised learning system for a unique learning experience
Pedagogy

How we guide students

  • Student agency & independent learning — students master skills by creating their own projects from scratch and tracking their progress professionally.
  • Personalised coaching — coaching and mentorship so students truly get the guidance they need.
  • Reflective practice — group reflections help students process what they've learned and grow from their experiences.
Experience

Learning beyond the classroom

  • Exposure to Global Citizenship via the GCED framework
  • Intuitive real-world simulation
  • Regular group / team work
  • Immersive classroom management system
  • Learning trips / field trips for wide-ranging exposure
